 This week Kakapo class have been doing a blog comparison, It is when you get one of you'r first ever blogs and compare it to one of you'r most recent blogs and see how much you have improved.

So here is my comparison

Angles

Angles

In kakapo class we have been learning what the different angles are and how to measure them with a protractor, and what different parts of the angles are.

We went around the school and we had            to find 5 acute angles 

(A degree the is lower than 90°) 

          and 5 obtuse angels

(an angle that is in between 90° to 180°)

 Than we had to see the difference of a right angle (an angle that is exactly 90°) to an acute angle.

To use a protractor you find a angle to measure then you find the semi-circle down the bottom and put it on the vortex (the corner that joins it)than it should show you what the degree is.

Addition pyramids

This week kakapo class have done different ways to do Addition. The way we did it was with Addition pyramids. Addition pyramids are when there are circles staggered up in the shape of a pyramid and there are numbers put in specific places. You start from the bottom and work you're way up to the top, you add the two numbers together and put the answer in the circle above and carry on to the top.

Caring for Mother Nature 

We all love mother nature, so us Kakapo class want to be Eco friendly by planting 800 trees out at  lake Gem. We planted Mānuka, Kānuka, Harakeke (flax), cabbage trees, Karaka, and Houpara. All beautiful native plants and trees to New Zealand. We also had help by the lovely people at Summit forest and Bushlands trust.

Then when we got there a nice lady called Karen talked to us about the place and what was so  important about it. Like how the forest was owned by the tribe Te Aupōri Then how four other tribes made a truce and shared the forest with each other 

 (Te Rarawa, Ngati Kuri, Ngati Takoto, Ngati Kahi, and Te Aupōri)

After the talk we got straight into it.  There were people planting and digging even people bringing the plants up the hill (that was tiring if you ask me )

It was a amazing experience and I would love to do it again.

Dame Miraka Szassy

                                  Dame Miraka Szassy

 I chose Dame Miraka Szassy for my local legend activity, Because she was a strong believer who fought for people to have there own rights but not just that because she was a kind caring person that loved helping others. 

She was a Maori leader making contributions to education, and making small business developments. Born in Waihopo north of Kaitaia 7th August 1921 and died on 20th December 2001. 

Dame Miraka Szassy was one of the first Maori women to graduate with a university degree, and in 1945 she was one of the first Maori women to get a bachelors degree, and she was made president of the women's welfare league. In 1990 she was made Dame of the British empire. Then in 1993 Dame Miraka Szassy received a doctor of laws from Victoria University in Wellington. Later on in her life she was part of a advisory committee that led to a creation of the ministry of women's affairs in 1984.

I chose her because her achievements were huge and deserves to be remembered she was a amazing lady.

Powerful paragraph

Last week my class did a warm up by doing a description piece of writing that can only be the size of a paragraph. We get a photo and once we are done describing the photo the best we can, we volunteer to read our paragraph out loud to get feed back (what was good about the writing) and feed forward ( what we can try make a bit better next time)

Here is my writing
I could hear the floorboards creaking. It was getting closer as much as I wanted it to go further away from me. I am worried it is going to gobble me up. I bend down on my arms and knees when a salty tear runs down my check, I want my fierce teddy bear crew to join me on my mission. But as I checked it was only Mr. Bear under the bed playing with his teddy friends.

A moment in time 

A moment in time is a warm up or it can be an activity when the whole class either get a video or a photo then we describe it in a deeper level of thinking instead of staying at the surface level of thinking.

HERE IS MY WRITING

I felt a deep sorrow fall into my heart thinking if I was to late

I could feel my eyes going a bit teary, my hands were shaking as I struggled to put the mask on the cat, I was empty inside as I felt a pity for the cat, my heart was racing as I picked up the cat up. Then I saw the cat moving I felt a sudden relief it was miracle.
